Gamer’s overseas will be getting access to alot more Brink than the rest of us. We don’t get our hands on Brink until tomorrow but here are a few juicy tidbits about the game content you might find interesting such as installation issues, extra “retail-only” content and dedicated server access:
What other gamers get (Pre-order bonus content) that we don’t…
One of the things kiwi gamers don’t need to worry about as much is competition in the retail sector. Since we only have a few major retailers that specialise in selling video games (Mighty Ape, EB Games etc), we’re not really subject to accessibility to different game content being determined by the retail outlet. Some retailers might throw in special deals when big AAA games release, but usually what is sold at one store is sold all over the country.
For gamers in the U.S.A however, it’s not that simple. With so many different retailers competing, everyone wants you to spend your hard-earned dollars with them. So, each retailer offers different content to sweeten the dealio such as:
The Doom Pack (available at GameStop and GameStop.com)
The Fallout Pack (available at BestBuy and BestBuy.com)
The Psycho Pack (available via Amazon.com and Direct2Drive)
The Spec Ops Pack (available via Walmart, Walmart.com and Steam)
I wouldn’t mind the Spec Ops pack or even the Psycho pack looks pretty cool. If you’re buying via Steam, you’re in luck. I’ve been wondering if anyone pre-orders from overseas in New Zealand? I know that some gamers do this on the off-chance something collectible comes out with a new release, but would it be worth it for the Brink content?
What’s with the Brink Dedicated Servers?
The official SplashDamage forums cover details of the dedicated server file updates for Brink. If you want updates on how things are progressing, that’s the best place to check (twitter updates are also trickling in). There have been reports that gamers are having difficulties connecting to the dedicated servers which devs are addresssing (as per the forum post above).
Decrypting file issues – OH NOES!
Yup, again, more updates around the internet reveal that players are already having technical difficulties with the Brink install on the PC. People on twitter have complained of decrypting file errors during installation. I’ll be reviewing this on the PC so I really hope things are sorted by then…
We’ll be completing this feature with our Brink review once we’ve downloaded the game tomorrow. In the meantime, there are plenty of gameplay clips and trailers online to nerdout to as well as the official launch trailer which is also our video of the week!
Check it out here.
